The sky stayed cleared for the Bruins August 21st opening day game against Christ the King, however CTK rained baseballs all over the field to take a 14-3 win over BSS. The magic of the CES preseason game also went out of the BSS gloves as the Bruins fielding kept lighting up the scoreboard “E”. The only Bruin with mojo in the bat was David Wasser, who went 2 for 2 along with a walk. Otherwise the Bruins struggled at the plate. CTK wouldn’t give Jacob Wear a chance to hit as they hit him with pitches in 2 of his 3 plate appearances. Hats off to Casey Sheehan and Brooks Fortune who each snagged a CTK fly ball. Hats off to shortstop Wear who flipped the ball to Trey Dhabalt at 2nd base for a nice put out in the 4th inning. Hats off also to Greg Larson, Wasser and John VonBehren who turned a cool double play to end the third inning . With the bases loaded, Larsen got the CTK #9 batter to hit a soft grounder back to him; Larson flipped to his catcher Wasser who stepped on the plate and then threw down to VonBehren at 1st base to get the inning-ending double play. Hats off to Tom Newell who scored 2 of the 3 BSS runs after drawing walks to get on base and Anton Katalnich for scoring the other BSS run also after drawing a walk. The Bruins next game is Saturday August 24 at Schlitt. This is a make-up of the Monday rain out. See you at the park!!
