Playing on yet another beautiful fall day, the Bruins took the field against CTK for their 3rd SRD game. This was the Bruins’ 3rd and final season outing against CTK. The game was scoreless and hitless for three innings. In the top of the 4th CTK put up a run. The Bruins answered with a run in the bottom of the 5th. Unfortunately, 11 CTK batters came to the plate in the top of the 6th, putting up 6 runs on 2 hits and 4 BSS errors. The Bruins could only answer with 1 run in their last at bats. Final score CTK 7- BSS 2. Season record: CTK 3, Bruins zip. The score notwithstanding, hats off to Greg Larsen who pitched a great game. Coming into the 6th Larsen had struck out 4 and had only given up 1 hit; and only gave up 1 additional hit in the 6th before coming off the mound after throwing over 70 pitches. Great pitching Greg !! J CTK had no-hit the Bruins for 4 innings. In the 5th Joey Huddleston racked up the first BSS hit of the day (his 1st of 2) with a single to right. Casey Sheehan followed with another single to right. Huddleston and Sheehan advanced to 2nd and 3rd on a passed ball. After Huddleston was picked off 3rd and John VonBehren struck out after fouling off a record setting 6 pitches, Brooks Fortune and Anton Katalnich knocked their way on J, scoring Sheehan for the tying run. Down by 6 in the bottom of the last inning, it looked like the Bruins were going to rally again. With one out and the Bruins 3rd base coach giving the home run signal to each batter, Jacob Wear lined one into center, Larson dropped one in right center and Huddleston again hit one to right. But all the Bruins could muster was one additional run. L Hats off to Brooks Fortune for a great 2nd inning catch of a hard hit ball to left field. J A double hats off to Anton Katalnich who had two big fly ball catches, sitting down the CTK #3 batter in the top of the 4th and the CTK #4 batter to end the CTK 6th inning rumble. JJ Way to go Anton !! Hats off to Jacob Wear who knocked down a hard hit grounder by CTK’s best batter, and from his knees tossed the ball to Huddleston at 2nd to take out the lead CTK runner. Hats off to VonBehren for three tough pop-up catches and a nice solo put-out on a grounder to him at 1st. Way to go John !! JJJ Hats off to Larsen for a nice pop-up catch in the 1st. Hats off to David Wasser for an inning ending 5-3 scoop and throw in the 4th. The day saw a big Bruins web gem: On a ball hit to right, Katalnich fielded the ball and relayed to Von Behren; Von Behren pegged a throw to Newell at the plate hanging up the CTK runner between 3rd and home; Newell ran the runner back towards 3rd and flipped to Wasser who, tightening the noose, flipped back to Newell who then gunned the ball back to Wear who tagged the stumbling CTK runner. A perfect play on a perfect day !! JJJJ A big thanks to Dr. Larry Newell for taking game pictures of the players. Look for them soon. With this tough loss, the Bruins’ SRD record stands at 1-2, with two games to play. Next game is Wednesday October 2 at 6 p.m. at Schlitt against Bank of Springfield. The last game of the season will be Saturday October 5 at 10 a.m. against Little Flower. Hey, with the great weather we are having, there’s no excuse not to be at the game. JJJJJ
