9/3/02 Game 5 for the BSS Bruins was a rematch with the strong Christ the King ball team. It turned out, unfortunately, to also be a replay of Game 1, as BSS lost 16-1 (actually 13-1 in the official 4 ˝ inning game). Only in the 2nd inning did the Bruins stop the home team, with Christ the King batters going 3-up, 3-down on two fine unassisted put-outs by Joey Huddleston at 2nd base and a strike out by pitcher David Wasser, who took the loss. Hats off to Joey for a good performance on an otherwise disappointing day. In addition to his two solo put outs, Joey made three other “4-3" put outs as well as smacking a 2nd inning double to center field and scoring the only Bruins run. Way to go Joey! The only other BSS hits came from a single by John VonBehren, who drove in the one BSS run, (way to go John !) and f rom Casey Sheehan’s single in the 4th inning. Otherwise, the Bruins hit five balls right into the CTK gloves, while striking out 6 times, grounding out 3 times and having a single taken away by a put-out at first by a hustling CTK right fielder. Defensively, the Bruins hurt themselves with goofs and errors. Hats off, however, to shortstop Trey Dhabalt who stopped a CTK hot liner in the 1st inning, made a “long” throw to first for a put-out to end the long 4th inning and made a put-out at 2nd base for the 2nd out of the 4th inning after taking a throw from Wasser who, having fielded a grounder back to the mound, threw from his knees to Dhabalt for the out. Dhabalt also caught an extra inning pop up to retire the last CTK batter of the game. Thanks to alumni Michael Wasser who umped the game after a no-show by the scheduled umpires.
