Game 6 saw the Bruins take a tough 5-4 loss to Buffalo Tri-City. Playing with only 8 players, the Bruins twice had to take an automatic third out stranding runners on base and twice had to give up a double because of a gap in the outfield. Despite the loss, David Wasser pitched a fine game, striking out 4, walking 1, giving up only 6 hits and making 5 put outs. The Bruins could only muster five hits, but reached base three times on an error and once on a hit batter. Big sticks were the two first inning back-to-back singles by 2nd baseman Joey Huddleston and 3rd baseman Peter Miller which gave the Bruins an early 2-0 lead. Other singles were by Wasser, relief pitcher Tyler Casper and newcomer, centerfielder Casey VonDeBur. Again the Bruins played some key defense. VonDeBur make a nice 1st inning catch of a fly ball to left (which was scored F-7 ˝). First baseman John VonBehren made 3 unassisted outs as well as doubling up a runner on a line out. Third baseman Miller had a nice 3rd inning catch of a pop up. Shortstop Casper turned a nice 6-4 to Huddleston to get the 1st out of the 4th inning, followed by Wasser’s 1-5 to Miller for out number 2. Catcher Trey Dhabalt made a nice fielding play on a sacrifice bunt in the 7th to nail the runner at 1st. Also good news–the Bruins made no fielding errors!! Thanks to Michael Wasser who was out on the field at 7 am helping to get the field ready to play. Many thanks to Rick Dhabalt for again keeping the score book. Also, a big get well fast to Tom Newell. We missed you in the line up. Next game is against St. Agnes at 4:30 on Tuesday, September 2. We play on the SHG ball field behind the west campus. Parking could be difficult so get their early!!
