WOW !! If you were not at the Bruins/Pretzel ball game you missed a great one !!   Down to the wire !!   Bruins 5 - Pretzels 4 !!   We win !!  Joey Huddleston’s two out single in the top of the last inning scores Peter Miller from third !!   Bottom of the 7th.   The Pretzel lead off hitter singles off of David Wasser–steals 2nd–and is bunted around to 3rd, with Wasser making a great 1-3 out on the bunt to no man’s land to the right of the mound, tossing to a stretching John Von Behren at 1st.   The tying runner is at third. Wasser battles the Pretzel number 8 hitter, who in the 4th had battled Wasser for 11 pitches, but then looked at a called strike three.   On the 6th pitch Wasser again gets him on a called strike three!!  Last batter - Wasser strike him out on 4 pitches, stranding the Pretzel runner at third.  Bruins win !!

But that was only part of the story. The Bruins opened up the first inning with  three runs on Trey Dhabalt and Newell’s hits, Wasser’s walk followed by Tyler Casper and John Von Behren putting the ball in play (although being out on FC’s).  The Bruins added a fourth run in the second on Wasser’s single to left that scored Blaine Yates-Frederich who started the inning with a lead-off walk. Newell kept the Pretzels shut out for two innings, striking out 5 of the first 7 batters he faced and popping up the lead off batter to himself.   By halfway through the fourth it was 4-4, as Newell gave up the only Pretzel hits of the game, but more importantly, retired two more Pretzel batters on strikeouts for a total of 7 strike outs against 15 batters in four innings of pitching!! Wasser struck out five of the next 12 Pretzels he faced to bring home the win.

And what can we say about Peter Miller. Not only does he score the winning run but he makes one heck of a diving shoe string catch in right to squelch what looked like the start of the Pretzel’s 5th inning rally by their lead off hitter who had smashed a double to center in the 3rd.   Then in the 6th, with two outs, Miller again hauls in a fly ball to right.   The other two outs came on catcher Dhabalt’s throw down to Grant Bitzer at third to nail the stealing Pretzel base runner and Wasser’s strike out.  Hats off also to second baseman Huddleston who made two great 4-3 plays and almost caught the seventh inning Pretzel single which sailed over his head but just out of his reach.

And if that wasn’t enough – we didn’t have any fielding errors !!

All this on a beautiful afternoon !!

We hope this brings you out to the game Tuesday, September 9 against Our Saviours of Jacksonville at the Routt field in Jacksonville. This is our last away game before the Regionals which start September 18.
