Athletes, as promised! Saturday, May 13th Memorial Stadium played host to the SAS/BSS Boys and Girls Sectional Track Meet. From that meet 15 individuals qualified for the State Track & Field Meet to be held at EastSide Center in East Peoria this weekend. But, the questions remains ............ what else happened at the Sectional Meet? What about everyone else. Here are the rest of the ribbon winners and their times. Note: these times were taken by our coaching staff and are as official as we get. Washington Middle School the host of the Sectional Meet does not release "official" statistics from the meet, nor, are they posted on the iesa.org website. Official post meet results are something we have had a lot of trouble obtaining throughout our entire season this spring... I digress..... The ribbon winners please!!! 7th grade girls took first place in the Sectional meet by a large margin of points over all the other teams. Emily Delvo(5:54) took first place in the mile and Madie Alexander(6:02) took second in that same event. Morgan Brinker took 4th place in the high jump with a jump of 4-6". Maria Lowis(2:37) took 1st in the 800m Run and Jenna Hopkins(2:48) took 4th in that same event. The 2x200m relay team took 2nd place. VanDerwal jumped 14-1/2" for 3rd and Giacomini jumped 13-7" for 5th. The 7th grade boys team, all of 6 men strong, solicited a little help from our 6th grade men. The competition in the field was tough, tough, tough, but team points were still earned. Michael Ralph(5:21) took home 2nd place team points in the 1600m while Eric Delvo(5:43) earned 6th place points in that same event. The final team points came from thrower Kevin Farley with a 3rd place finish in the shot put with a toss of 31-5 3/4" The 8th grade boys struggled against some incredible competition but still came up ribbon winners in several events. Sean Ryan took 1st in the 1600m run in a time of 5:01 improving his own school record by six seconds. The 4x100m relay team took 5th place in a time of :54.18. Runners include: Michael Brydl, Matt Call, Brian Malone and Joey White Sean Orlando(2:23) took 6th in the 800m while Sean Ryan(2:18) secured 3rd in the same event. Ryan's time earns him another school breaking record in that event. The last event of the day was the 8th grade boys 4x400m relay race. Runners Brydl, Call, White and Ryan impressed all who watched as they ran a time of 4:04.9 almost taking the school record time of 4:03.
