STARS AT STATE!
Greetings
Track Stars & Parents...
So sorry for the delay on this report, but we had an SHG graduation here on
Sunday and a birthday here last night... Now back to some serious news..
Performing on Friday were the following:
Kayla Kolis was the first to compete Long Jump and took a best leap of
12-10" for her first appearance at state. She is looking forward to a comeback
next spring.
Our lone 6th grader, Helen Cavanaugh, followed in the Discus with a toss
of 79-5". Helen was seated 11th in the state of Illinois and she remains 11th in
the state of Illinois amongst 39 competitors in that event. Helen also holds the
school record in both the shot and the discus after her performances this
spring!
Emily Delvo was seated 27th in the 1600m but came in 17th in the state of
Illinois improving her best time by 8 seconds running 5:46!
Madie Alexander ran an amazing come from behind 1600m in her heat. The
announcer announced her name several times throughout the race and brought the
crowd to their feet. Madie was seated 36th and came in 23rd in the state of
Illinois with a time of 5:49. Her best time prior to state was 6:02!
Jessica Megginson improved her 1600m time by 16 seconds. She was seated 16th
in the state and came in 10th amongst the 8th grade girls in a time of 5:31.
Their were 39 8th grade girls in her race. SHG will be lucky to have her on
their team next fall.
Michael Ralph, our lone 7th grade boy, ran his 1600m race in a time of
5:25 just four seconds off his best time.
Sean Ryan, our lone 8th grade boy, ran in the fastest heat of the 1600m and
improved his best time by five seconds running a sub five minute mile at 4:56!
He too holds the school record in the 1600m for the 8th grade boys, as well as,
the 800m record at 2:18. His 7th grade 1600m and 400m record still stands as
well. Sean will be a true asset to SHG next fall.
Saturday's Events Held Even More Excitement!
Maria Lowis came in 16th out of 38 competitors in the 800m Run running
her best time of 2:36.
Jessica Megginson was seated 12th in the state of Illinois in the 800m
and finished 12th in the state of Illinois blowing everyone in her heat away at
the finish line. She ran her best 800m time of 2:31.
The 4 x 200m Relay Team of (Emily Delvo, Maria Lowis, Morgan Brinker and Kasi
Korza) alt. Lauren Reiser
was up next. The girls ran what looked to be a very impressive race with some
very impressive looking hand-offs. They later found out that they received a
hand-off too early and were disqualified for their efforts. It was a
heartbreaker, but they still ran very well and learned a valuable lesson while
at their first state meet. They will be back again next spring to take back
their glory!
The final race of the day came with the 8th grade girls 4 x 400m relay
team of (Kelsi Frank, Sarah Giacomini, Alaina Selvaggio, and Jessica
Megginson) alt. Kirby Goetz. Nerves were abundant but hardware was in
their future. Leading the relay was Giacomini with a starting split of 1:02.4.
The handoff went to Selvaggio who held strong with a 1:06.9. She handed off to
Megginson who held on with a 1:06.6. Frank brought it home in a 1:05.4 to secure
5th place medals for the entire team. It was the first and only set of medals
for the weekend by the BSS/SAS team. The proudest moment was securing the school
record in a time of 4:21.6 That should be a hard one to beat.
It was another successful season for the BSS/SAS Track & Field team. We as
coaches are very, very PROUD to be a part of this amazing group!
