What is scrip?

Scrip (skrīp) noun

1.  Paper issued to be used as money

2.  Blessed Sacrament School's newest fundraising program that gives you dollar-for-dollar value for your participation.  The school purchases gift certificates from local businesses and the National Scrip Center at a discount and sells them to you at their face value.  You can purchase them for yourself, to use when making purchases, or for gifts to family and friends.  With the holidays approaching, don't forget the mailman, babysitters,  employees,  friends,  etc.

How do I use scrip?

The scrip you will receive is a paper gift certificate or plastic gift card just like what the store would issue for gift giving.  Give the cashier your gift certificate instead of cash.  The cashier will enter the value of the certificate and, depending on the total of your purchases, either ask you for additional funds or give you change.  If you have more than $5.00 due in change, most businesses will issue you a gift certificate for the balance.  Some gift cards are debit cards that 'hold' the balance that is remaining for the next shopping trip.

Scrip is easy to use.  The hardest part is figuring out how much to buy so that you always have some available when you need to make purchases.  Many of the families already buying scrip have commented that they now feel guilty when making purchases without the scrip.  Scrip has helped some to budget for their weekly or monthly grocery expenses.

How much can we earn?

The potential of this one, simple fundraising program is astounding.  Let us suppose that a family buys $100 of groceries each week.  If this family purchases scrip from the school to use when shopping for these groceries, the school will earn $5 each week or $260 per year.  Multiply that by 300 families in the school and BSS would earn a profit at year-end of $78,000.  This figure does not include scrip that is available at restaurants and retail stores, whose discount to the school is higher.  Add to this figure the scrip that will be purchased by parish members and the figure climbs!

How can I get scrip?

Some scrip are available on a CASH & CARRY  basis.  These gift certificates and cards can be purchased in the school office anytime during normal school hours.    They are also sold after the 10:30 Mass in the vestibule of the church every Sunday.

ORDER FORMS with an expanded listing of stores and restaurants will go home with school children on a regular basis.  These order forms are also available in the vestibule of the church.

How do I get the scrip I ordered?

Each order requests that you choose one of these options to receive your scrip -

1)  Pick up the order in the school office during normal school hours any time after 3:00 on the Friday following your order.

2)  Send in a self-addressed stamped envelope with your order and we will mail your scrip to you on Friday.

3)  Give my order to my child at school on Friday.  The school will not be responsible for lost or misplaced orders after they have been given to a child.
