Hello fellow track stars.......
I spent my day today in Lewiston, IL watching my nephew qualify for state in
three out of four events. He is an 8th grader at Hanna City. He ran an :11.7
100M for first, his 4X100 relay team placed second posting :55.0 and his
4X400 relay team place first with a time of 4:07.
Our Sectional Meet will be held on Saturday at Memorial Stadium hosted by
Washington Middle School. Participating in our Sectionals are Chatham
Glemwood, Pawnee, Petersburg Porta, Pleasant Plaines, Riverton, Rochester,
Spfld Franklin, Spfld Grant, Spfld Jefferson, Spfld Lincoln, Washington
Middle School and Williamsville. Thirteen teams will compete over a period of
approx. 6 hours.(boys field, girls running, boys running, girls field) YOU
MUST be there by 8:00 a.m. at the very latest!!!!!!
The order of events is the same as always. Usually there are four heats
per
age division in the open 100M, 200M, 100 and 110M hurdles. There are
generally only two heats per 400M and 800M. The mile may or may not have two
heats depending on the number of entrants. All heats will be run with proper
age groups, meaning they will not ever run 7th and 8th together. Prelims
are
only run the hurdles and the 100M Dash, meaning, if this is
your event you
will run a preliminary heat and if your time is good enough you will go on to
run in the finals. All other races are run on times no matter the heat.
Usually the slower heats go first.
Which brings me to the subject of TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ONLY two entries are
allowed per event. We have placed our two fastest runners in each race giving
them the ability to qualify for state. In some cases the next two fastest
times are being allowed to run for the experience in the 8th grade
division.
Examples of that are Allie Bloxdorff and Emily Boll in the 800M with Jacki
Alexander and Katie Jasmon being place one and two in the 7th grade division.
Running as an eighth grader this year DOES NOT disqualify you from running as
an eighth grader again next year. We want to give everyone the best
opportunities they can to qualify for state.
Track is NOT ABOUT winning or losing races!!!!! Track is about TIMES and
Distances. We are always running against the clock not each other. If you
participate in a meet and you have beat your best time than it doesn't matter
if you ran against a 7th grader or an 8th grader. You beat the clock when you
run a personal best and that should always be the goal.
In regard to sectionals, you can finish dead last in a race and still attend
the State meet if you run a state qualifying time! In my nephew's 100M race I
watched all 6 finalist qualify for State and it did not matter who was first
and who was sixth. They all get to go to state.
On another note if you DO NOT run a state time but place first or second
according to your time then YOU STILL qualify for State. So all of you who
know you are not running state time now it does not mean you will not go to
state. If your time places you first or second in that event then you still
get to go to state.
YOU all have potential dependent on your personal bests!!!! I will see you
all at practice on Monday at 3:30 rain or shine. If it is raining we will go
inside Saint Agnes and work on handoffs and flexibility. If we are able to be
outside we will practice from 3:30 -5:00. If it is raining then make sure
your parents pick you up by 4:30. We will only practice one hour if it is
raining!
c you monday,
coach jr, -----> I am still waiting for official track results from the Wash
Mid. School meet that is why you don't have a press release yet!
p.s. if anyone has kept all of our press releases please let me know I am
looking for five of them and can't find them in my files.
thank YOU :o)
