We are not Rested but we are Ready!
Springfield, Illinois -- May 17, 2001—Coming off a spectacular Sectional
Weekend six 7th-grade track stars are state bound as of tomorrow morning! If
anyone asks, practices in preparation for the state meet are way more
grueling than any other practice this season. Hailee Elmore (3 events), Jacki
Alexander(2 events), Katie Jasmon, Anna Newell, Liz Pinkham and Betsy Metz
will all be representing St. Agnes/B.S.S. Track in full force this weekend at
Eastside Center in East Peoria. The State competition kicks off with a
victory lap at1:45 Friday, May 18, 2001, similar to the lighting of the torch
at the Olympics.
Should you see any of these girls tomorrow be sure to wish them well. They
deserve it. They have worked very hard to get where they are and currently
they are focusing on visions of success. How did all of this happen you ask?
Well, it all began on a bright sunny Saturday morning that went well into
late afternoon. May 12, 2001, St. Agnes/B.S.S. 7th and 8th grade boys and
girls stepped onto the track at Memorial Field with thirteen other area AA
schools. Only three of these schools had met with the St.Agnes/B.S.S. Team
earlier in the season. St. Agnes/B.S.S. was really not sure what was to
expect from their first Sectional meet.
The gun went off and Jacki Alexander and Karen Trott had made it out of the
prelims in the 100M hurdles and were headed to the final round. Only 8 of 24
seventh grade hurdlers received this honor. The St. Agnes/B.S.S. team was on
their feet as Alexander placed third and Trott placed 6th at the finish line.
Alexander had just secured the first of several state spots for the St.
Agnes/B.S.S. team with a state qualifying time of :17.6.
Next up the 1600M Run. Hailee Elmore again unmatched in the field led the
mile to her state qualifying finish posting a time of 5:27. Along with
Elmore, Katie Jasmon ran a personal best of 5:49 shattering the state
qualifying time, placing her sixth in the field and attaining yet another
spot on the state team. At this point three 7th grade girls for St.
Agnes/B.S.S. were going to State.
The 4x100 relay team (Jacki Alexander, Rebecca Schraeder, Emily McHenry,
Allie Bloxdorf) ran a personal best of 1:00 giving them a 6th place
finish.
Maureen O’Marro ran a P.B. of 1:10 in the 400M Dash while Hailee Elmore found
herself another event to participate in at the state meet. Elmore placed
second in the 400M with a state qualifying time of 1:03.
Let’s not stop there. Let's move on to the 800M Run where Katie Jasmon gave
everyone heart failure just missing her second state event with a time of
2:43 just two seconds off state qualifying time. However, Jacki Alexander did
qualify in this event securing her second state event posting a time of 2:38
for fourth place. Now, this 7th grade girls team had four events in the state
bag and one of those events had two entrants.
Moving right along or should we say sprinting to the finish, the 7th grade
girls 4X200 relay team (Anna Newell, Liz Pinkham, Betsy Metz, Hailee Elmore)
proved they too would like a shot at state by placing third in their event
with a time of 2:01. This would be Elmore’s third state qualifying event.
Newell and Pinkham both set new P.B. in the 200M with times of :29.7 and
:30.6 respectively. Ashley Jones, Maureen O’Marro, Katie Jasmon, and Karen
Trott made up the 4X400 relay team and also ran a P.B. of 4:59 in that event.
Emily McHenry secured the final team points by placing 6th in the high jump.
The St. Agnes/B.S.S. 7th grade girls placed fifth overall at this years
Sectional meet in a field of 13 teams and are sending six teammates to the
State meet in East Peoria.
Other outstanding performances at this years Sectionals were as follows:
For the 7th grade boys in the 400M Dash, Patrick Boyer ran a P.B. of 1:17
while Matt Cummins ran a P.B. of 1:11. Jeff Sanders took third in the shot
put.
More 7th grade girls running on the 8th grade girls’ team were Kimberly
Magerl who ran a P.B. of :32.4 in the 200M Dash. In the 800M Run Emily Boll
ran a P.B. of 2:59 while Allie Bloxdorf ran a P.B. of 2:57.
Eighth Grade Girls Allysa Cunningham, Emily McHenry(7th), Kelsey McManus and
Elizabeth Stegeman ran a P.B. of 5:03 in the 4X400M relay. Elizabeth Stegeman
ran a P.B. of 6:17.4 in the 1600M. Alyssa Cunningham ran a P.B. of 1:12 in
the 400M Dash.
For the eighth grade boys team Tom Metz ran a P.B. of :27.4 in the 200M
Dash. Kyle Kluzek ran a P.B. of 1:17 in the 400M Dash. Kevin Frank ran a P.B.
of 2:37 and Matt Monaghan placed sixth, running a P.B. of 2:30 in the 800M
Run. The 4X100 relay team, Kevin Frank, Ryan Farris, and Tom Metz, Matt
Monaghan placed fifth at Sectionals with a time of :54.6 for a final P.B.
