"BSS/SAS come back against CTK on the Grass Course"

Springfield, Illinois – September 2001, The Blessed Sacrament/St. Agnes Cross Country teams took on Christ the King and Lincoln Magnet on the grass course at Washington Park last week for a girls win of 21-38 and a boys tie of 34-34. On what might have been the first perfect fall day of the season, BSS/SAS girls dominated the meet taking seven out of the top ten places.

Katie Jasmon(14:50) led the girls' pack from the go through this 2 mile plus course for a first place victory. Jasmon was followed shortly by Ashley Ralph(15:37), Ashley Jones(15:41) and Melissa Gay(15:47). CTK took places 2,6,and 7 but, BSS/SAS piled in taking places 8,9,10,11,12 and 13 by Darian Dolenc(16:21), Kaitlyn White(16:34), Kiley Enno(16:40) Emily Schmidt(16:53), Ally Bloxdorf(16:58), and Rebecca Schrader(17:04) respectively. We call that lumping in CC lingo and we love when that happens. Anne Cummings placed 16th with a time of (18:00) while Rachel Jennings placed 21st.

The BSS/SAS boys had their work cut out for them facing a loss to CTK earlier in the season. Top runner Hugh McDermott(13:39) hung tight with two of CTK's finest runners and almost took them in the last 100 yards of the race but finished third just behind them. Patrick Boyer(13:58) swiftly followed McDermott in for a fourth place finish. Trey Dhabalt(14:45), a sixth grader at BSS, Colin McCormick(14:51) and Michael Enno(14:56) bunched up sealing places 8,9 and 10 to secure the tie, while Michael Feller(14:57), another 6th grader, sealed a 12th place finish. Nick Feller a number two man for BSS/SAS was out due to a leg injury.

Ben Ahrens(15:39), Devin Mapes(15:53), Peter McDermott(16:00), Andy Ralph(16:12) and Danny Lord(18:33) filled in places 14,16,17,20,and 23.

The 2-mile plus course at Washington Park on the grassy knolls is still a measured distance unknown but a course BSS/SAS has become very familiar with as they strengthen their strides for Sectionals on Saturday.   Headed to Sectionals this weekend and looking for a spot on the state team are: Katie Jasmon, Ashley Ralph, Melissa Gay, Ashley Jones, Darian Dolenc, Emily Schmidt and Rebecca Schraeder. (alt: Enno, White, Cummings), Hugh McDermott, Nick Feller, Patrick Boyer, Trey Dhabalt, Michael Enno, Michael Feller, and (alt. Mapes, Ahrens, P. McDermott)

*****UGH!!!! BIG Mistake!!!!!!!!!!! Please add Colin McCormick to the list of boys looking for a spot on the state team at Sectionals this weekend. Colin is our fifth man in and I somehow left him off!!! My apologies.
