Ralph and Gay Come in 1,2 & 3" Springfield, Illinois – September 4, 2001- It was the season opener for Cross Country between Christ the King and Blessed Sacrament/St. Agnes at Washington Park this afternoon. Eighth grader Emily Schmidt cruised across the finish line with a 15:11, 2-mile time!! Schmidt was quickly joined by her teammates Ashley Ralph at 15:16 and Melissa Gay, a sixth grader, at 15:18. Darian Dolenc running a 16:31 and Rebecca Schraeder running a 16:35 took spots six and seven while Katie Korza at 17:27 and Kiley Enno at 18:23 rounded out the top ten by taking spots nine and ten. Team scores for the girls went B.S.S./St. Agnes 12 - CTK 31. As you know, the team scoring the least amount of points in Cross Country wins the meet! Congratulations to B.S.S./St. Agnes. This is clearly one for the record books. Personal bests were performed by all B.S.S./St. Agnes girls to include: Kaitlyn White, Leslie Criscione, Olivia Gay, Anne Cumming, Taylor Murphy, Megan Clasen, Megan Coakley, Kimberly Coakley and Rachel Jennings. "Our girl's team is comprised of seven 8th graders and twelve 6th graders," said Coach Ralph. " Although three of our top runners were out due to other obligations the girls had a phenomenal performance. We are a team with a bright future and serious state bound hopefuls." "Time
Shaving!" Patrick Boyer finished a close second to CTK Shawn Valenti. Boyer's finishing time was 13:08. Hugh McDermott, a seventh grader, placed fourth with a time of 13:22. Nick Feller took the sixth spot with a time of 13:53 while Trey Dhabalt, a sixth grader, took the tenth spot at 14:35. Dhabalt was followed by, Colin McCormick, Michael Feller, Michael Enno, Peter McDermott, Andy Ralph, Ben Ahrens and Danny Lord. The B.S.S./St. Agnes team comprised of two 8th graders, four 7th graders and four 6th graders was evenly matched in numbers by the CTK team. The point spread was tight with CTK finishing with a team total of 46 and B.S.S./St. Agnes finishing with 59. "CTK has a strong boy's team and now the B.S.S./St. Agnes team knows what to go after when it comes to times," said Coach Ralph. "Cross Country is a tough sport. You have to have endurance, speed, strength a huge heart but primarily it is a mental game and our boys have what it takes to be on top. We are looking forward to a great season!"
