Grade Girls Take First Place Honors at Pawnee Triangular Pawnee, Illinois – April 3, 2002, The first meet of the season was one of many first place finishes for the 8th grade BSS/SAS girls. Count them, nine out of thirteen events; we are number one. Team totals: Cathedral 5, Pawnee 49, BSS/SAS 74!!! (Pawnee co-ops with Divernon and Kincaid) Karen Trott started the team in the direction of victory taking first on the 100M Hurdles (:18.22). Trott also finished first in the long jump(12’4”). Hailee Elmore, 7th grade 1600M record holder for the state of Illinois is already running well under state qualifying time this season for the 8th grade girls with a time of 5:28. Qualifying time is 5:55. Elmore took first in both the 1600M and the 400M (1:06). Both the 4x100M and the 4x200M relay teams finished first with times of 1:01 and 2:14 respectively. 4x100M runners were Trott, Katie Korza, Rebecca Schraeder, and Ashley Jones). 4x200M runners were Elmore, Emily McHenry, Kimberly Magerl, and Anna Newell. Newell also finished first in the 200M (:30.48) McHenry took another first in the high jump(4’0”). Katie Jasmon, another state qualifier from last year, took first in the 800M(2:55) Second place finishes went to Jasmon in the 1600M(6:22), O’Marro in the 400M(1:14), McHenry in the 200M (:31.7), Jones in the 800M (2:57), Anne Bloechle in the discus and the 4x400M relay team(O’Marro, Ashley Ralph, Jasmon and Trott) (5:43). Ralph(100M hurdles), Newell(100M), Jones(long jump) and Selvaggio(discus), all took third place finishes. Schraeder(100M), Ralph(800M) and O’Marro (high jump) rounded out the 73 team points with fourth place finishes. Patrick Sheehan and Patrick Boyer made up the whole of the 8th grade boys team at Pawnee. Boyer took 4th in the 100M hurdles and fourth in the HJ. Sheehan took third in the 100M and third in the long jump. Michael Stieren, Kevin Klemm, David Kavish,and Casey Sheehan all 7th graders formed an 8th grade 4x100 team. The boys finished a very impressive second with a time of :57 just 4 seconds off state qualifying time for 7th grade. Kavish, Klemm, Michael Enno and Stieren again all 7th graders ran for the 8th grade 4x400 team taking another second.(5:10) Stieren(:27.7) and Kavish(:29.9) finished third and fourth respectively in the 200M for the 8th graders. Had they run as seventh graders they would have finished first and second place respectively beating their opponents by two full seconds. That is a lot in a 200M dash. All seventh grade boys will compete as 7th graders at the meet in Chatham. Looking forward to a huge victory from them there.
