Petersburg-Porta Boys Results
Petersburg, Illinois -- May 2002--- Can I just say, men and paper work, not a
good combination. After many phone calls and lots of arm twisting we were able
to acquire the results for the boys Petersburg-Porta triangular held almost two
weeks ago. Well, they are sort of like results. While we did not have the team
finishes we were hoping for, we did have some outstanding individual
performances.
Nick Langellier("18.59) and Kevin Klemm(:20.27) started the meet off in the
right direction taking first and second in the 110M hurdles. David Kavish kept
the momentum going with a first place finish in the 100M dash with an
outstanding time of :12.98 and Michael Stieren maintained that pace with a first
place finish in the 200M dash posting :27.63.
Next, the 4x400M relay team (Kavish, Stieren, Michael Enno and Sam Gallon), who
as I remember were seriously trying to skip out of that race, took first with a
time of 4:42, a new school record? It could be! The 4x100M relay team took
second with an impressive time of :55.28 (Kavish, Langellier, Klemm, Stieren).
Known for their distance runners, Petersburg Parta took control of all the
middle distance and distance events as well as the field events pushing Enno to
a third place finish in both the 1600M(6:21) and the 800M(2:52) while
Langellier(2:57) finished fifth in the 800m. Danny Lord also ran the 800M in
3:17 while Devin Mapes ran it in 3:09. Ben Ahrens and Mapes also participated in
the 1600M posting 6:34 and 6:36 respectively.
Ahrens(4'2") finished third in the high jump with Tommy Lord(4'2")
finishing fourth. Stieren(13'9") took third in the long jump with
Langellier(13'8") taking fourth. Jeff Painter took the final team points
placing fourth in the 200M dash(:33.02) while Trey Dhabalt ran the 200M in a
time of :33.48.
Unfortunately most of our sixth grade boys were busy with a baseball try out and
were not able to fill in those extra needed points for the 7th grade boys win at
Petersburg. The final team standings were: Porta 61, BSS/SAS 35, Athens 21.
For the eighth grade boys, Patrick Boyer took third in the 110M hurdles(:20.51),
fourth in the 800M run(2:54) and fourth in the long jump. Brandon Curry tossed
the shot put 27'3" and the discus 101'7. Tommy Lord, grade 6, placed fourth
in the 100M(:15.33). A last minute 4x400M relay team of Langellier, Mapes,
Dhabalt and Boyer placed second with a time of 5:27. It is very tough to win as
a team when there are only two, eighth grade boys participating.
Final team points fell as follows: Porta 73, Athens 26 and BSS/SAS 13.
Finally,
Petersburg-Porta (Girls)
Springfield, Illinois -- May 2002--- It was the last meet of the regular track
season and the 7th and 8th grade girls knew going in that if they could just win
against Petersburg-Porta and Athens, two more teams in their Sectionals, then
their chances of doing well at Sectionals was very, very good! Final Team Points
at the Petersburg Triangular: BSS/SAS 61, Porta, 47, Athens, 26 for 8th grade
girls and BSS/SAS 66, Porta 59, Athens 4 for 7th grade girls. The win was
secured.
Breanne Sergent ran her best time in the 110M hurdles blowing away the rest of
the field with a :17.22 finish for first. Bridgete Helms took first again in the
100M(:13.42) and the 200M(:28.78), no problem. Sergent also took first in the
long jump with a leap of 14'8" and Helms took second with 14'6".
Christine Becker(4'2") and Erin Malone(4'0") came through with big
points at high jump finishing first and second respectively while young Ashley
Eck, grade 6, took first in the 400M Run(1:11) against a very strong, very deep,
Petersburg Porta distance team.
Petersburg Porta has one of the strongest cross country teams in the area and
they proved their power by taking control of most of the distance and middle
distance events pushing Melissa Gay(2:58) and Darian Dolenc(3:01) to a third and
fourth place finish in the 800M and again, M.Gay(6:46) and Kaitlyn White(6:58)
to a third and fourth place finish in the 1600M.
Jessica Selvaggio held up her end finishing second in both shot(18'1") and
discus(52'1") while missing Anne Bloechle who wasn't able to make it to the
Petersburg-Porta triangular.
BSS/SAS drew the rest of their team points with their aggressive relay team
finishes. The 4x100M relay team(1:04) took second (Lisa Miller, Kelly Bramlet,
Jaclyn Tracy, Erin Hanney). The 4x200M relay team(2:08) finished first (Jessica
Orlando, Eck, Malone, Becker) and the 4x400M relay team(5:22) finished second as
well, (Anne Cumming, Olivia Gay, Dolenc, M. Gay).
Other point earners at the Petersburg-Porta triangular were: Cumming 100M
hurdles(:20.86) for third, Becker 100M dash(:13.98) for third, Cumming
400M run(1:16 for third and Malone 200M dash (:31.46) for fourth.
Eighth Grade girls topping the charts again with first place finishes were:
Karen Trott in the 100M hurdles(:17.92) a full second ahead of the next fastest
runner from Porta, Emily McHenry setting a new school record in the 100M dash
:13.70, Hailee Elmore in fine form once again in the 1600M (5:16) and the 400M
(1:06), the phenomenal 4x200M relay team of Helms, Sergent, Elmore and Anna
Newell, a sure in for state with a time of 1:58, and McHenry again in the high
Jump 4'6".
Maureen O'Marro set a new personal best of 1:07 taking second in the 400M.
Newell ran :29.06 in the 200M for second and Katie Jasmon finished second in the
800M Run(2:40) while Ashley Ralph ran a personal best of 2:44 for fourth in the
800M. Kimberly Magerl finished second in the high jump 4'4".
Both 4x100M(:58.19) and 4x400M(5:05) relay teams added even more team points
with second place finishes. Running on the 4x100M relay team were Magerl,
McHenry, Katie Korza and Rebecca Schraeder. Running on the 4x400M team were
Jasmon, Trott, O'Marro and Emily Schmidt.
Adding additional team points with third place finishes were: Ralph in the 100M
hurdles :19.54, Schraeder in the 100M dash( :13.87), Newell in the long jump, a
first timer and a mighty impressive distance for a first timer, 13'7",
perhaps she should skip soccer in high school and give long jump another look,
McHenry in shot (21'2") and Grace Gieger in discus 67'7" and she is
back with a new school record.
Jasmon took fourth in the 1600M(5:51) against a powerful Porta distance team and
Gieger took fourth in the shot put(20'11"). Allie Bloxdorf took fifth in
the long jump(10'11") and Magerl took sixth in the 200M(:31.06) securing
the last of BSS/SAS's team points that put them in another first place team
finish completing their season record of eight wins and only one loss. Next up a
Sectional Win!
