You
Go Girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
New
Berlin, Illinois – April 2002-- Rumor has it allergies are bad this time
of year! Apparently the BSS/SAS 7th & 8th grade girls have a strong allergy
to anything but first place.
Breanne
Sergeant, Bridget Helms, Kiley Enno, Melissa Gay, Jaclyn Tracy, Erin Hanney,
Jessica Orlando, Erin Malone, Darian Dolenc and Anne Cumming all took first
place honors at the New Berlin triangular for the 7th grade girls team.
Karen
Trott, Rebecca Schraeder, Katie Jasmon, Maureen O' Marro, Anna Newell, and
Kimberly Magerl took first place honors for the 8th grade girls teams. There
were only four events out of thirteen that these girls did not finish first in
at both levels. If they are not taking first, they are finishing it up with very
tight and very close seconds.
Breanne
Sergeant finally pulled off a state qualifying time in the 100M hurdles.
(:17.41) Sergeant now holds the school record in that event for the 7th grade
girls. Bridget Helms, a school record holder in four events was out of control
with first place finishes in New Berlin. Helms ran state qualifying time in the
200M (:27.9) by almost a full second for first. She took first in the 100M
(:13.75) just shy of state time, first as the anchor in the 4x200M 8th grade
relay team and first in the 8th grade long jump an event she just thought she
"might try" at this meet with a leap of 14' 1 1/2".
Two
talented sixth graders Kiley Enno and Kaitlyn White ran one and two in the
1600M. Enno secured first (7:06) followed closely by White(7:12) until the
last 100M. Enno has a most impressive kick. Melissa Gay ran unchallenged in the
800M taking first with a time of 2:56. Cut 15 seconds and she is running state
time and she is ONLY in the 6th grade.
Another
exceptional group of 6th grade girls, Jaclyn Tracy, Erin Hanney, Jessica
Orlando, and Erin Malone took first in the 4x200M relay(2:18); a full ten
seconds in front of their next closest opponent. This group of 6th graders is
not to out shine another group of sixth graders, Darian Dolenc, Anne Cumming,
Enno and M. Gay in the 4x400M relay, another first place team(5:44) almost 20
full seconds ahead of the next team up. The 4x100M Relay team Anne Bloechle,
Lisa Miller, Olivia Gay and Molly Bramlett took second with a time of 1:06.
Cumming
lead the 400M all the way around until the last 30 yards where she took a heart
wrenching second to Clarke from Pawnee. Cumming's time 1:17.25; Clarke's
1:16.76 How close is that?
Anne
Bloechle is lending her expert softball skills to the discus throw(20'10")
and shot put(46' 10"). Bloechle took second in both events while teammate
Jessica Selvaggio took first in the discus throw(54'5") and third in the
Shot Put(16'9"). Both girls are benefiting from the fine tutelage of
"new" shot and discus coach Kevin Lust of BSS.
Other
finishers and team point makers: Malone second in the HJ (4'2"), Selvaggio
third in the 400M(1:20), Malone third in the 200M(:31.46), Dolenc third in the
800M(3:05), Tracy third in the HJ(3'10"), Cumming fourth in the 100M
hurdles(:21.37), Orlando fourth in the 100M(:15.18), Olivia Gay fourth in the
400M(1:21). Kiley Enno fourth in the 800M(3:19), Orlando fifth in the
200M(:32.09) white fifth in the 800M(3:28), Enno fifth in the long
jump(9'10.5"), Bramlet sixth in the 100M hurdles :21.68), and Dolenc 6th in
the long jump(9'3").

Final
Team Scores for 8th grade girls: BSS/SAS 74, Pawnee 35, and New Berlin
24!!!
Karen
Trott, unbeaten in the 100M hurdles is still looking for state time. While in
New Berlin Trott took first with at time of :17.79 A three stepper and a hurdler
with a natural gift, Trott will make state time when she needs to. Trott holds
the school record for the 8th grade girls in the 100M hurdles.
Rebecca
Schraeder set a new school record in the 100M with a time of :13.82. just .7
seconds off state time. Schraeder is another individual state hopeful. Kimberly
Magerl tied the school record for first in the high jump (4'4").
The
800M for the eighth grade girls was a battle with three BSS/SAS girls vying for
the lead. Of course, as a coach you would like to see them all finish first for
the team. The challenge was set forth and Jasmon kept her lead while Ashley
Jones edged out Ashley Ralph on the last curve for second almost edging out
Jasmon as well. Only two entries are allowed in each event at Sectionals. This
could be the event to keep your eye on.
Katie
Jasmon settled for first in the 800M(2:43.65) and came in first in the
1600M(6:04) in New Berlin. Jasmon, a state qualifier last year in the 1600M, is
looking for two state entries this season one in the mile and one in the 800M.
Jasmon currently holds the school record in the 800M. Jones took second(2:44.28)
and Ralph finished third (2:49.00)
The
4x200M relay team has made its last member change. The new team is Newell,
Sergeant, Helms and Elmore. In New Berlin, Maureen O’Marro ran Elmore’s leg
due to Elmore's absence. O'Marro assisted in bringing the team to a first place
finish. (2:07.26) This team is a serious state hopeful as is the 4x100M relay
team(:59.15) of Magerl, Korza, McHenry and Schraeder who finished a close and
very tight second in New Berlin to Pawnee(.58.90).
Magerl,
Schraeder, McHenry and Korza don't know it yet but as soon as we convince Korza
and McHenry, they will make state time(:55) in this relay when they need to at
Sectionals.
A
very tired and exhausted 4x400M relay team (Jasmon, Newell, Jones and Trott)
took second in the 4x400M relay(5:08). Other second place point earners were:
Erin Hanney( a sixth grader) in the 400M (1:20), Trott in the long jump (12' 9
1/2") and Katie Korza in the 200M(:30.40). See Katie is fast she just
doesn't know it yet.
Third
place point earners: Ralph in the 100M hurdles (:19.9). Magerl in the
100M(:14.22), Emily Schmidt in the 1600M(7:01), Gieger in the shot(20'
1/2") and discus(43' 4"), and McHenry in the high jump.
The
Eighth Grade Girls' only loss was to Chatham this season by a mere 4 points. Six
meets down Four to go before Sectionals. Next up Petersburg Invite on
Saturday!!!
We've Got Some Convincing To Do!!!
New Berlin, Illinois – April 2002-- BSS/SAS 7th grade boys win the New
Berlin Triangular; BSS/SAS 68, Pawnee 47 and New Berlin 12. Nick
Langillier, David Kavish, Michael Enno, Michael Stieren, Devin Mapes and a
select group of sixth grade boys brought the team another first place victory.
Nick Langillier started the ball rolling or was that one of those hurdles he
knocked into in the 110M hurdles ??? Either way, Langillier dominated the field
of hurdlers with his perfect form and natural hurdling ability finishing first,
again, in the 110M hurdles(:18.12). Kevin Klemm finished third in the 110M
Hurdles(:20.9).
Langillier also finished first in the long jump(13' 1/2") and second in the
400M(1:14). Ben Cummins, a sixth grader, took third in the long jump and Bryce
YoHo, another impressive sixth grader, took third in the 400M(1:24).
David Kavish was hiding a little bit of speed in his running shoes in New
Berlin. Kavish surprised the field in the 100M Dash(:13.34) doing something we
knew he could do all along, finish first with Michael Stieren(:13.51) a close
second.
Michael Enno, broken arm still intact, finished first again in the 1600M(6:18)
and the 800M(2:56). Did I mention with a broken arm??? Devin Mapes took third in
the 1600M(6:47) and fourth in the 800M(3:14). Danny Lord finished in 3:25.
Michael Stieren giving up the 100M to Kavish finished first in the 200M
Dash(:26.93) still just points of a second off state time. Can he do it?? Don't
ask him that question. If you see him just assure him that he WILL DO IT!!!!
Kavish finished second in that event(:28.06).
Speaking of state times, what can we do to convince the 4x200M relay team that
they have no choice but to finish as state qualifiers at Sectionals?? Kavish,
Stieren, Langillier and Casey Sheehan finished first in the 4x200M relay(2:01)
in New Berlin, just missing state time.
Aside from these most impressive efforts by the 7th graders from BSS/SAS, there
is a group of outstanding sixth graders that need to be mentioned: Jeff Painter,
Ben Cummins, Trey Dhabalt, Val Contri in the 4x100M relay(1:03) for first, and
Mapes, Dhabalt, Cummins and Contri again in the 4x400M relay(5:34) for first!!!
When we need them these young men are always ready, willing and capable of
handling the task!
Chris Behl finished fourth in the shot and third in the discus for final team
points. Although you must know, Kelby Jasmon, Bryce YoHo and Phil Sherman are
all serious contenders for that shot and discus place.
Amongst our many Eighth Graders is the all powerful Jeff Sanders still throwing
state distances in both the shot(43'6") and the discus(106' 11") for,
of course, firsts. Brandon Curry took third in the discus.
Then there is Patrick Boyer taking second in HJ, fourth in 110 hurdles(:20.62)
and braving the 800M(3:03) for the first time finishing third. Jeff
Painter, grade 6, filled in on the 100M and the 200M for the 8th grade team and
took third in the 100M(:14.62). Kevin Klemm, grade 7, finished fourth in the
400M(1:06) for the team.
