BSS/SAS Tracksters Step Up Again at
Pawnee Quadrangular

Springfield, Illinois - April  2003   This time conditions were better, the track was lined and all teams were in full force at Pawnee on Monday, April 14, 2003. Thirteen total events and the 8th grade girls swept all but two of them placing first overall with a total of 102 team points over Pawnee 42, Tri-City 35, and Girard 5. 8th grade boys scored 62 team points just edging out Pawnee at 58, Tri-City 47 and Girard 16. 7th grade girls again take Pawnee 89 to 69 with Girard scoring 27 and Tri-City scoring 4 team points. The BSS/SAS 7th grade boys fell short scoring only 53 team points against Pawnee's 73 putting them in second place overall ahead of Girard 38 and Tri-City at 28.

Overall just coming off an outstanding showing in Decatur the Saturday prior BSS/SAS ruled in Pawnee for their second meet on the Pawnee track. Michael Enno ran a personal best in the 800M with a time of 2:37. The 8th grade boys 4x100 relay team (Colin McCormick, Chris Peterson, Enno, Jeff Painter) ran an impressive :53.7 and Jacob Wear ran a 5:44 for a PR in the 1600M run. The 4x200M relay team is creeping up on the school record running 2:03.(Shaughn Reid, Tommy Lord, Jimmy Johnson and Chandler Wescott). But, the relay to watch is the 4x400M(4:35), Wear, Enno, McCormick and Peterson subbing in for Hugh McDermott.

Breanne Sergent, Jenna Reid, Bridgett Helms, Emily Meyer, Christine Becker, Anne Bloechle and Katie Kuchar with some help from a few other 8th grade gals and some stand up 7th graders scored more than half their total team points placing first in eleven out of thirteen events. Sergent is consistently putting up state times in the 100M hurdles(:16.78). Helms and Sergent are consistently brinking the edge of state times and distances in the 400M run and the long jump. Both are  members of the first place 4x200M relay team that ran a state time of 1:57 in Pawnee on Wednesday. Other contributors on that relay team were Rachel Craighead and Molly Bramlet(7). Jenna Reid put up a 6;12 in the mile for first and took her first try at the 800M run also placing first with a time of 2:47, just 9 seconds off state time. Perhaps we will see Miss Reid double at state this year! Katie Kucher and Anne Bloechle threw themselves into new school records posting 24' in the shot for Kucher and 69'6" in the discus for Bloechle. A very impressive showing for the 8th grade girls team!

The picture was similar with the 7th grade girls team taking eight first place finishes! Anne Cumming in the 100M hurdles (:19.63) a PR, Molly Bramlet :14.27 in the 100M Dash, Darian Dolenc 6:26 for the 1600M, Erin Hanney 1:11 in the 400M, Ashley Eck :30.84 in the 200M Dash, Melissa Gay 2:48.5 in the 800M another PR, Eck again in the long jump 13'7.5", and the 4x200M relay team(Eck, Jessica Orlando, Hanney, Erin Malone) running a mere one second off state time 2:02, another BSS/SAS relay team to keep your eyes on!

It was all about Jeff Painter for the 7th grade boys. Painter is making it known that of the 7th graders in Springfield he ranks up there amongst the hard to catch. Painter doubled with first place finishes in both the 100M dash and the 200M dash and provided some assistance to the 8th grade boys 4x100M team as stated earlier. Chris Frank is the other 7th grader to keep your eyes on putting up another impressive time in the 1600M of 5:36.42. State time in that event is 5:17 we've seen it happen before with the girls. Will BSS/SAS send their first boy miler to state this year. We certainly hope so!
