Delavan Sectionals -- October 9, 2004
STATEBOUND!!!!
What a DAY in Delavan! History was made today and tears of JOY abounded as
both BSS/SAS girls and boys' teams qualified for STATE!
The ladies received a 1st place trophy as they defeated 8
other tough competitors at this sectional meet. The guys brought a
runner-up trophy home, as they placed 2nd out of 10 teams. The
excitement from the maroon and gold camp at the awards ceremony as the
winners were announced was incredible!
Setting the pace for the BSS/SAS ladies was wonder runner
Julia Wykoff (13:08), followed closely by queen of quick
Jessica Megginson (13:13). Third for BSS/SAS
with an amazing run was 6th grade standout Kayla Kolis (13:18, a
personal best), and fourth was super strider Madie
Alexander (13:42, a personal best). It is worth mentioning that
both Kolis and Alexander cut a full 40
seconds off of their previous best times. A notable accomplishment when
already in this time range! Crossing fifth for our team was super talented
Emily Delvo (13:47, a personal best), amazing
Mackenzie Wortley (13:50, a personal best), and
reliable runner Kaylee Sables (14:07).
Cheering these gals on enthusiastically were sectional team alternates
Morgan Clem, Katie Dresser, and Kelly Korza. These ladies
were warmed up, primed, and ready to step in and run should it be
necessary. They will also be alternates for the State team.
On the Boys' front, crossing first and second for BSS/SAS
were rambo runners Mike Witsman (12:06) and Sean
Ryan (12:07). Both of these were season's best performances for
these young men. Next was a phenomenal run by super strider Joey
White (12:24), who cut more than 30 seconds off of his
previous best time! Magnificent Michael Ralph was fourth,
with a personal best time of 12:31 and two shoes on. Fifth
for the team was consistent contributer Sean Orlando (12:39),
who ran through some pain to finish the race as his foot was hurting. Next
was distance mogul Eric Delvo, running a personal best of
12:50, a full 40 seconds faster than his previous
best race. Finishing up was an amazing run by Griffin Ludwig
(12:56), who broke the 13:00 minute barrier and achieved a personal
best! For the first time this season, ALL SEVEN top
runners were under 13:00 minutes. What a supreme effort!
Supporting the team were ready, willing, and able alternates Joey
Showtis, Peter McDermott, and Matthew Wesley.
These gentlemen were primed and ready to step up to the plate if needed, and
will be doing the same at State next weekend.
CONGRATULATIONS to all of these super athletes and every
member of the BSS/SAS team on a fantastic season! With
such hard-working runners, it is no wonder these teams are
statebound on October 16th!!!
