PRESS RELEASE
by Jane Ryan

Last weekend we had to split the BSS/SAS team in half, sending some to the Bradley University Invitational on Friday night in Peoria and some to the Petersburg Invitational Saturday morning.  The girls' team took fourth place in Petersburg and the boys' team secured second place.  At Bradley, both the boys and girls' teams finsihed in first place for a phenomenal showing.

GIRL POWER!

Petersburg:

Having the team divided between the meets did not slow us down much, as many stepped up and improved their times to make our team look very competitive on a beautiful morning in Petersburg.  The first seven BSS/SAS gals to cross the line included Emily Delvo (15:19), with a phenomenal run and personal best time.  Kayla Kolis (15:32) and Mackenzie Wortley (15:49) were next, each with a great run and a personal best time.  Next were superstars Madie Alexander and Danielle Hokzema, both with times of 16:27, a personal best for Hokzema.  A hard-working Kristin Grimsley crossed 6th for BSS/SAS with a personal best time of 16:39, followed by tried & true Kelly Korza with 17:15.

Other team members giving it their all and attaining best times for the season included Abby Bloink, Brigid Cavanagh, Helen Cavanagh, Sarah Coe, Amy Marzalek, Carlye Marzalek, Courtney McCarty, and Julie Saal.  FANTASTIC JOB GIRLS!!!

Peoria:

At the Bradley University Invitational, the runners completed a 2K rather than the usual 2 miles, thus making the times for everyone appear very speedy.  However, it should be noted that if we were to extrapolate the runners times into 2 mile times, we STILL would have just about every runner attaining a personal best anyway!  The course at Dettweiler Park, where this meet was held, was just beautiful.  The weather was perfect, and our athletes stepped up to meet the stiff competition and show how much their training has paid off.

Our top seven BSS/SAS superstars to cross the line consisted of the legendary Julia Wykoff (11:18), 7th grade phenomenon Jessica Megginson (12:06), outstanding Kaylee Sables (13:04), hard-working Katie Dresser (13:17), tried & true Morgan Clem (13:21), and 5th grade superstars Madison Clem (15:10) and Lauren Lanzotti (15:36).

Alexandria Maillet (15:37) and Christine Maillet (16:39) turned in nice performances, as did Sierra Gonzalez (19:04), who staged a dramatic finish by beating a runner she had run neck & neck with the entire 2K!

Let's Hear it for the Boys

Petersburg:

The boys were no different from their female counterparts as they rose to the occasion and turned in some great runs, many with improved times and personal best finishes.  Crossing the line first for BSS/SAS was super runner Peter McDermott (13:45) with Eric Delvo (13:57) not far behind.  Next were Zach Jones (14:04) and Joey Showtis (15:11) each with a very nice run.  Following next were 8th grade veterans Matthew Wesley (15:13), Dan Farmer (15:29), and Jake Meyer (16:17), ALL of whom knocked over one minute off of their former season best times!  GREAT JOB GUYS!  We are looking forward to seeing the continued trend from these young bucks!

Also attaining personal best times at this meet were hard-workers Brendan Cavanagh, Kevin Cavanagh, Nick Enno, Max Favero, Corbin Mapes, and Michael Shaddel.  Nice work fellas!

Peoria:

Once again, these boys completed a 2K run rather than the usual 2 mile, which makes the times look great.  Just as the case with the girls, however, if we extrapolated these times to approximate a 2 mile run time, almost every one of these young men would have produced a season's best performance!

The top 7 finishes for the BSS/SAS team were wonder runner Mike Witsman (10:47), 7th grade standouts Sean Ryan (11:03) and Sean Orlando (11:07), superstar Michael Ralph (11:16), tried & true Joey White (11:50), and hard-workers Griffin Ludwig (12:28) and Mason Switzer (12:46).  It is noteworthy to mention that Mike Witsman, Sean Ryan, and Sean Orlando finished 2nd, 4th, and 6th OVERALL in this meet!  Our team made its presence known!

Other notable performances in this 2K run were given by 5th grader Nathaniel Langfelder (12:47), Ryan Butler and Dan Debrey (12:50), Joe LaFata (13:00), Michael Kelly (13:46), and Nick Robinson (14:39). SUPERB JOB GENTLEMEN!!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Lincoln Park on Tuesday.
