Congratulations to our eighth grade girls’ IESA basketball team on winning second in state!  They had a wonderful season!  Besides being proud of them for their state trophy, I am extremely proud of the way they represented our school.  Over Christmas break we received a letter from Mr. Dave Schmitt, one of the coaches of Normal Epiphany, the team they played in the last game.  He included this photo taken of both teams after the game and shared the following thoughts:

“In a time when sports are getting such horrible press where athletes are fighting and playing dirty, I find it hard to believe that a photo such as this one could be taken. What a wonderful exhibit of sportsmanship was shown by these two teams.  Honestly, being a small part of this photo means as much to me as being a part of a basketball team that played in the state championship game.

I think I remember that it was someone from Blessed Sacrament that originally recommended this picture be taken. Thank God for that person. And thank you, Mrs. Wear, for such a wonderful basketball team.

I can only hope that in some small way, these wonderful 8th graders from both schools can teach the rest of us how to show proper sportsmanship in all aspects of our life.  Congratulations on an excellent season at Blessed Sacrament.”

I extend his praise to our students and all the fans that supported the girls.  They also exhibited great spirit and sportsmanship.  During this school year we have focused on good character, and I couldn’t have asked for a better display of those traits than the actions of the players and fans throughout the entire tournament.  We are very proud of all of you!
