The Mardi Gras season begins on January 6th, Epiphany.  The King’s Cake is a tradition thought to have been brought to New Orleans from France in 1870 as a symbol of the Holy Day of Epiphany.  It is traditionally decorated in the three Mardi Gras colors – purple for “justice”; green for “faith”; and gold for “power”.  These colors were to resemble a jeweled crown honoring the Wise Men who visited the Christ Child on Epiphany.  A small plastic baby is sometimes found in the King’s Cake to represent the Christ Child.

Cupcakes have been provided by God’s W.I.S.H. Committee and should be enjoyed in your classroom sometime before lunch.   Boys get yellow – girls get purple – teachers & staff get green.   One boy and one girl in each classroom will find a baby in a cupcake (and several teachers).  They should report to the school office “I’ve got the baby!” and will be invited to sit at the kings and queens table at lunch.
