March 20, 2008A Note to ParentsDear
Parents, This
last week before Easter break has included several annual events.
Last Friday evening the Builders Club sponsored our yearly junior high
dance. I heard from the principals
at our monthly meeting on Tuesday that their students thought it was the best
dance this year. Special thanks to
Mrs. Senger for organizing the event and to all the parents who chaperoned the
dance. Without your help, this
event would not be possible! Today our students attended our seventh graders’ annual presentation of the Living Stations. As always, it was a moving way to follow the Stations of the Cross. Special thanks to Mrs. Kate Rossi for directing the students again this year, and we extend our thanks to Mrs. Mundstock for her help and to all the teachers who made accommodations for the students to be able to practice. Also, good luck to our seventh graders at the regional science fair next weekend! Today marks the beginning of our Easter break with our 1:30 p.m. dismissal. I hope you and your families will be able to participate in the services held during Holy Week. (Mass for Holy Thursday is this evening at 7:00 p.m. On Good Friday the Living Stations will be presented at 3:00 p.m., and the Good Friday service is at 5:30 p.m. Easter Vigil Mass will be celebrated at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, and the regular Mass schedule is in place for Easter Sunday.) I wish you the blessings of the Easter season. Enjoy the vacation days with your family!
Sincerely,
Mrs.
Kathy Wear A Message from Father HoeflerStarting today we celebrate the three most important days of the year as Catholics. They even get their own name. These three days, the Triduum, are the center of everything we believe and try to live.
As we celebrate this time from the Mass of the Lord’s Supper through
His Resurrection on Easter, I will be keeping all of you in thought and prayer
in a special way. I pray with great gratitude for all the sacrifices you make
to have your children educated and formed here.
I pray for your well being and the salvation of us all.
God bless you and happy Easter!
Fr. Hoefler
Uniform
Reminder
Beginning Tuesday, April 1, students may wear
shorts to school, and the girls are not required to wear tights with skirts.
Please check the shorts and skirts to make sure that they fit the
children in length (2 inches above the knee), according to the uniform
guidelines listed in the student handbook on page 22.
Easter break would be a good time for parents to let down the hems in
skirts. Although the students will be allowed to wear shorts in April
and May, please check each day that the weather will be warm enough for the
students to be outside in shorts. Also,
please check the length of your child’s hair to make sure that the guidelines
on page 23 of the student handbook are being followed.
Easter break provides a perfect opportunity for haircuts, too! Dental
Exam Reminder
Please remember that all
students in kindergarten, second grade, and sixth grade are required to present
proof on the appropriate form of having been examined by a dentist before May 15
of the school year. If a child in grade 2 or 6 fails to present proof by May 15,
then the school may hold the child’s report card until one of the following
occurs: 1. the child presents proof
of a completed dental examination; 2. the
child presents proof that a dental examination will take place within 60 days
after May 15; or 3. the parents obtain a waiver from the Department of Public
Health or provide objection to the dental examination on religious grounds.
Please contact the school office if you have any questions. Reminder
for 8th Grade Parents
The coordinators of the Subway and pizza lunches that benefit the eighth
grade fund for end-of-the-year activities are still in need of parent volunteers
to serve the lunches. Please do not
wait for someone else to volunteer. They
really need your help in order to raise the remaining funds for the lunches.
Please contact Kathy Adams or Blanca Farris if you are able to help.
Also, the date for Enrollment Sunday has been set for Sunday, April 13.
Confirmation candidates will attend the 8:30 a.m. Mass that day and will
sign a book to indicate their intention to be confirmed.
Their Confirmation retreat is scheduled for Monday, May 5, at St. Joseph
Church in Chatham. Confirmation Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. on
Wednesday, May 7. Registration PacketsWe still have several families who have not returned their registration packets. To help us in planning for next year, we would appreciate the remaining packets being returned at your earliest convenience. If you have any questions, especially about tuition or the new service hour program, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Wear. Thanks for your help! Rescheduled
PSA Chicken Dinner Parent/School Association has rescheduled the Chicken Dinner that was cancelled due to weather concerns. The drive-through dinner will be held on Sunday, April 6, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. with the drive-through lane set up just outside our school gym. Tickets purchased for the previously scheduled dinner will be honored, and a flyer asking for volunteer help is being sent home today. If you have any questions regarding previously purchased tickets or about helping at the event, please contact Kerry Ingram at 544-8611. Young AuthorsDue to accreditation preparation, an early Easter break, and other scheduling conflicts, this year we will be asking students in grades K through 5 to participate in Young Authors on a voluntary basis. (Grades 6 through 8 are in the process of finishing their books as a required assignment in their literature classes.) Teachers in the lower grades will provide guidance for the students and may require some aspects of the writing for a grade. However, publication of a manuscript will be a project completed mainly outside the classroom setting. Bare Books will still be available for purchase for $2.00 each in the school office to help students publish their written works. General guidelines are being sent home today. Completed manuscripts will be due by Wednesday, April 16, and those books will be on display at Culturefest. Judging in the different grade divisions will take place after Culturefest. Look for more details about judging after Easter break. Looking AheadFriday,
