Dear Parents,
Thanks to all the room parents and other parent volunteers who helped with the Halloween parties last Friday. It is always a fun day for all of our students! Also, belated thanks to our Builders Club, under the guidance of Mrs. Schraeder, Mrs. Pierce, and Mrs. Gregory, for sponsoring the Halloween Carnival on Sunday, Oct. 25, to benefit the Holy Childhood Association. They worked hard to provide a fun evening for all in attendance as well as to raise funds for the less fortunate around the world.
We also extend our thanks to all of you who have taken time out of your busy schedules to attend the parent-teacher conferences the last two days. If you were unable to attend your scheduled conference, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher(s) to set up another time to meet. Also, please keep in contact with the teachers regarding any concerns you may have discussed at conferences. Again, thanks for all you do to support our work with your children!
We do have a regular dismissal day tomorrow, but it is a Spirit Day sponsored by PSA for our students. (See the PSA newsletter for details regarding the dress requirements.)
Good luck to our seventh and eighth grade students who will be competing at the Catholic schools’ speech meet this Saturday at Blessed Sacrament. Thanks to Mrs. Bucklin and Mrs. Davis for organizing our students and the meet as well as the parents and other volunteers who have helped with coaching and/or judging this weekend. We are grateful that our students have such an opportunity that will benefit them for years to come!
Next Wednesday is Veterans Day, and we will be observing that day with an all-school assembly to remember those who have heroically fought for our freedom and who are currently serving in the armed forces. Please take some time this weekend as a family to join us in praying that God will bless and protect our veterans and our military men and women of today.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kathy Wear

Congratulations to Allyson Padget, an eighth grader, who was chosen by Mrs. Ficke as our masterpiece artist of the month. In choosing Allyson, Mrs. Ficke commented, “Her pen and ink is an excellent example of what our talented eighth graders have been learning. Using calligraphy pens, Allyson created texture with a variety of crosshatched lines and great contrast of lights and darks to make her drawing be very effective and beautiful! Great job, Allyson!!!”
We are in need of five unisex basketball jerseys that BSS used in the past two years. If you would like to donate one back to the school, please send it to the office. (If you have any questions about the type of jersey that is needed, please contact Mrs. Davis at 522-7534, ext. 205.) Thanks for your consideration and generosity!
Thanks to all of you who supported our Scholastic Book Fair, which ended yesterday. We are still compiling numbers, but it is always a good fundraiser to help purchase new books for our school library.
As another library fundraiser, order forms are being sent home today for three kinds of cheesecakes from The Cheesecake Factory. To help you in your selection of a cheesecake, the library will be hosting a cheesecake tasting after the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Masses this Sunday, Nov. 8. Orders must be placed by Tuesday, Nov. 10, and the cheesecakes will be available for pick-up at our Book Fair Event at Barnes and Noble on Monday, Nov. 23. The delivery date will be just in time for your Thanksgiving gatherings, so take advantage of this opportunity for a special dessert!
The library is also hosting a fundraiser at Barnes and Noble on Monday, Nov. 23, as mentioned above. Purchases of books and other items made that evening will benefit our school library. In addition, the evening will include a celebration of the fine arts with a display of our students’ artwork of favorite book characters as well as a singing performance by some of our students. It will be a perfect opportunity to shop for Christmas gifts for everyone on your list and benefit our school library at the same time!
Rehearsals of the All City Band’s experienced musicians will begin next Monday, Nov. 9, in the SHG band room. (Beginning students will not start All City Band rehearsals until the second semester.) All returning musicians from last year’s beginning band will rehearse from 6:15 until 6:45 p.m. All other students will rehearse from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Flyers are being sent home today with band students, and extra copies will be available outside the school office.
Please remember that Picture Retake Day is next Friday, Nov. 13. If a student was absent on Picture Day, he/she needs to pick up a Picture Day form. If a student needs a retake, the original photo package must be returned; a new form is not needed.
6th Grade Volleyball Parent Meeting
Parents of sixth grade girls interested in playing volleyball this year are invited to a meeting for parents only on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the art room. The sixth graders are able to compete on a school team in the SCAA league, and they also play several times during the IESA season. Please attend the meeting to find out about the opportunities and expectations for sixth graders participating in volleyball.
The kindergartners are sponsoring a food drive to benefit the Holy Family Food Pantry as their mission project for November. They will be collecting non-perishable food items from Monday, Nov. 9, through Tuesday, Nov. 17. A flyer is being sent home today with a list of the most needed items on the back. Thank you for helping to make a difference in the lives of the hungry in our community!
Next Wednesday, Nov. 11, there will be a meeting for second grade parents at 6:30 p.m. in the church. Father Hoefler, along with Mrs. Kroner and Mrs. Townsend, will be sharing information regarding the preparation of the second graders for the sacrament of Reconciliation.
Father Hoefler invites our parents (adults only, please) to attend the Pastor’s Annual Party to be held on Sunday, Nov. 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the school gym. Get your holiday season off to a festive start! Visit with other parents and parishioners while enjoying cocktails and hors d’oeuvres by Jimmy Oh and live piano music by Dr. Bob Mocharnuk. Look for a flyer to be sent home next week, but mark your calendar now!
Blessed Sacrament Parish is hosting La Dolce Vino Wine Tasting Event on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the school gym. Come to sample and order your holiday wines. Enjoy delicious appetizers, hand painted wine glasses, and delightful music! Tickets are $15.00 per person and can be purchased ahead of time from Missy Broeker, Tina Saunderson Schmidt, Barb Drake and Sarah Nelson. They are also available at the door. Proceeds will benefit the BSS Annual Fund. We promise a very fun evening, so please join us!
