7th Grade Boys take Third at Clinton Invite
Clinton, Illinois – April 2002-- Imagine if you had to take to the
basketball court without your center, your best guard and your forward
guy................. That is what it was like at the Clinton Invite on Monday
night without David Kavish, Kevin Klemm, Casey Sheehan, Devin Mapes, Bryce YoHo
and Trey Dhabalt.
Even with some of our key runners missing the team held their own for a third
place finish in Clinton. Nick Langillier proved he could still not be beat in
the 110M hurdles. Still working on state qualifying time, Langillier ran the
hurdles in :18.87. The BSS/SAS 4x400M relay team (Val Contri, Sam Gollon, Tommy
Lord and Michael Stieren) took first as well, with a time of :59.04. Did I
mention three members on that team are Sixth Graders??
Michael Stieren took second in the Long Jump(13' 6") and a crushing second
in the 200M(:27.24) just barely edged out by Carroll of St. Matthews. The 4x200M
relay team( Tommy Lord, Jeff Painter, Michael Enno and Langillier) took third
with a time of 2:13 and the 4x400M relay team (Contri, Gollon, Ben Ahrens, and
Stieren) took third as well with a time of (5:00).
Also competing in Clinton were Ahrens and Lord in the H.J., Langillier in the
L.J. (12'3"), Phil Sherman and Kelby Jasmon in the shot and discus, Painter
in the 100M(:14.92) and the 200M (:32.03), Enno(6:15) and Ahrens(6:40) in the
1600M, Enno(2:57), Langillier(2:55) and Danny Lord(3:23) in the 800M, Contri in
the 200M(:31.25), T. Lord in the 100M(:15.82), and Sherman in the 400M(1:22)
Final Team points fell as follows: St. Matthews 111, Clinton 80, BSS/SAS 36,
Decatur Lutheran 23 and D-W 18!
Eight Grader Patrick Boyer took a very impressive second in the 800M run! Boyer,
having only run this race once before, ran it in 2:49.52. Boyer also took fifth
in the 110M hurdles(:22.01).
Jeff Sanders took another team first in the shot (41'5") but third in the
discus (121'3"). Brandon Curry took fourth in the discus throw
(87'2"). Sanders and Curry hope to spend a lot of time with new Coach Lust
the week before Sectionals.
Jasmon
runs state time in the 800M
and Elmore is back!
Eighth Grade Girls take home another First!
Clinton, Illinois – April 2002-- Katie Jasmon shattered the state
qualifying time in the 800M Run finishing first with a time of 2:30 and in the
1600M, Hailee Elmore is back from vacation running just shy of her 7th grade
state record time(5:15). Elmore ran 5:17.28 for first at the Clinton Invite.
Did you know that the Girls High School All City Record holder's time is 5:19 in
the 1600M? Elmore, an 8th grader soon to be a freshman, won't let that record
stand either. Jasmon is looking to accompany Elmore to state again this year in
the 1600M finishing second in the 1600M in Clinton with a time of 5:56.
Ah, but Jasmon and Elmore are not the only ones with bragging rights after the
Clinton Invite. Karen Trott took another first in the 100M hurdles(:17.95)
thinking only three steps, three steps, three steps!!
The 4x100M relay team wants a chance at state finishing first again with a time
of :59.73 (Kimberly Magerl, Ashley Ralph, Katie Korza and Rebecca Schraeder).
The 4x200M relay team figures they have state in the bag running 1:57.61
(Elmore, Newell, 7th grader Breanne Sergeant and Bridgett Helms).
Elmore is looking for another state entry in the 400M finishing first with a
time of 1:05.69 in that event. Grace Gieger decided, why not, another first in
the discus throw 66' 8". Gieger also finished fourth in the shot put(19' 4
1/2").
Bringing in the second place team points were: Ralph in the 100M hurdles(:20.0),
Schraeder in the 100M dash (:14.55), Newell in the 200M dash (:29.68), Trott in
the Long Jump (12' 10") and O'Marro in the high jump(4'4") and the
400M(1:10.79). Last but most of all not least. the 4x400M relay team brought in
second place team points too!( O'Marro, Emily Schmidt, Jasmon and Trott)(5:04).
Magerl took third in the High Jump (4'2") as well as third in the
100M.(:14.56). Also finishing third was Ralph in the 800M(2:46). Katie Korza ran
the 200M(:32.26). Emily Schmidt finished 5th in the 1600M(6:53.96). Ashley Jones
took 5th in the 800M(2:55.17). Schmidt(3:15) and Allie Bloxdorf(3:16) ran in the
800M as well. Bloxdorf also competed Long Jump.
Due to the excellence of this entire team effort, the Eighth Grade BSS/SAS
girls finished in first place again, maintaining their record of 6-1.
FINAL TEAM POINTS: BSS/SAS 116, ST. MATTHEWS 74, CLINTON 39, DECATUR
LUTHERAN 22, DELAND WELDON 13!
Helms, Sergeant & Becker
Solid Gold for the BSS/SAS 7th Grade Girls
Clinton, Illinois – April 2002-- Bridget Helms was on fire at the
Clinton Invite on Monday night. BSS/SAS competed against Clinton, Decatur
Lutheran, Deland/Weldon and a very strong, very deep St. Matthew's team.
Helms took three out of five-first place finishes for the 7th grade girls of
BSS/SAS; first in the 100M (:13.78), first in the 200M(:27.36) and first in her
latest favorite event, Long Jump. (14' 10"). Helms has run state qualifying
time in both the 100M and the 200M.
However, Breanne Sergeant has no intention of letting Bridget Helms go to state
without her. Sergeant did what was expected; receiving first in the 110M
hurdles(:17.48), and second in the Long Jump(14' 7 1/2"). Both Helms and
Sergeant are jumping state qualifying distance in that event. Sergeant ran state
qualifying time in the 110M hurdles for the second time, at Clinton. Christine
Becker added to those first place finish points by jumping 4'2" in the High
Jump. Becker also placed 5th in the 100M(:14.76).
Our distance and middle distance girls had a rough and rocky go of it in
Clinton. Perhaps it was because they were missing Kiley Enno who wasn't able to
attend due to a recently fractured nose. Melissa Gay finished 5th in the 1600M
(6:47) and Kaitlyn White ran the 1600M in 7:04.
St. Mathews took almost all the places in the 800M allowing Decatur Lutheran
only two. M. Gay(3:05), Darian Dolenc(3:03) and Kaitly White(3:24) all
participated in the 800M run.
We were edged out of any major team points in the 400M run as well. Anne Cumming
did place 5th with a time of 1:19 while Jaclyn Tracy ran it in 1:21. Ashley Eck
another 400M runner is still out due to a soccer injury!
Our 4x100M relay team is suffering just a bit since Helms and Sergeant have been
moved up to an 8th grade state qualifying 200M relay team. Anne Bloechle, Molly
Bramlett, Lisa Miller and Dolenc took a 4th place finish in that event. (1:04).
But, Becker, Erin Hanney, Tracy and Erin Malone held on to the 7th grade 4x200M
relay race for second place team points(2:14).
We ran two 4x400M relay teams in Clinton. Olivia Gay, Dolenc, Cumming and M. Gay
took third with a time of 5:30.78 while Jessica Selvaggio, Anne Bloechle,
Bramlet and Miller ran 5:40.10.
Selvaggio and Bloechle rounded out field event points. Bloechle took third in
the discus throw(61'1") and fifth in the shot put(20' 1/2"). And,
Selvaggio placed fifth in the shot put(57' 9") and threw 19'3" in the
discus throw for a personal best.
Also competing in Clinton were: Malone(3' 10") and Tracy(3' 8") in the
high jump, Bramlet(:24.98) and Cumming(:22.26) in the 100M hurdles, and
Malone(:32.05) and Hanney(:33.11) in the 200M. Lisa Miller gave long jump a try
with a leap of 10" 3 1/2".
The BSS/SAS 7th grade girls finished second as a team at the Invite.
FINAL TEAM POINTS: ST. MATTHEW 88, BSS/SAS 68, CLINTON 60, DECATUR
LUTHERAN 42, DELAND/WELDON 0.
