HUGE Turnout at Shakeys!!!!

Springfield, Illinois – May 2002-- Shakey's Restaurant, in Town and Country Shopping Center, was the "chomping" grounds to 50 of 63 Track Stars and their families last night celebrating the near end to the 01/02 Track Season. Eighth Grade Athletes were recognized as well as this years School Record Holders.

The evening began with a room reserved for 75 that was soon bursting at the seams as invited guests kept coming and coming. After the BSS/SAS Track Stars and their families took over the entire middle seating area at Shakeys and enjoyed fine dining and piles of ice cream, Coach JR and loyal Assistant Mary Cummings passed out carnations to all the 8th grade students who will be moving on to highschool next fall. Each new School Record holder was also recognized. To find a complete updated list of School Record holders check www.bssbruins.org later this week.

Coach JR was overwhelmed with the response, kind words and the generosity of so many parents and student athletes at the first pre-Sectional Track Dinner. Rumor has it she is out today getting her van washed before she goes shopping at the Running Center and plans a night out to dinner at the Pasta House. "It takes the time, talent and kindness of many to make a successful program," said Coach Ralph. " I can't say Thank you enough and the pleasure truly, is all mine."

Coach JR assured many that she would still be around next year to Coach the Bss/SAS team noting that it couldn't be done without the constant support from Mary Cummins, Teri Enno, Sharon Gay, Joanie Baker and so many other volunteer parents.

On a final note, Summer Running packets with VERY IMPORTANT information were handed out at the dinner. If you did not come to the dinner your packet will be handed out at your school. Packets include: a runners notebook for logging summer mileage, an individual meet performance sheet, a schedule and directions to the 01/02 State Track Meet, this season's Class AA State qualifying times and distances, an application to the Springfield Runners Club, summer racing information, and 2002 Cross Country information.

Cross Country Practices begin July 30, 2002 at Washington Park. For further information please call 523-2407. See you all at the Sectional Meet on Saturday!!
