Cross Country practice at 9:00a.m. enjoy your time off :o)

Greetings Track Stars!
Here we are in East Peoria dodging rain clouds. It is cold and wet very similar
to the rest of our season. After the 1:45p.m. lap of the champions, Bridgete
Helms took to the long jump which looked very similar to a shallow swimming
pool. In the pouring down rain she took her three jumps and ended her season
with a disappointing 13'7" for 29th place at state. But for Helms
it was just a taste at her first state meet. She will undoubtedly be back
again next year!
At around 3:00 this afternoon, the first 100M hurdle prelims went off for the
7th grade. Breanne Sergent was seated in lane 5 in the last heat, typically the
fastest heat. Sergent ran :16.91 and took first in her heat qualifying her for
the semifinals. Sergent won the semifinals running :16.97. Sergent runs in the
100M hurdle finals at 9:00a.m. tomorrow and is a favorite. Karen Trott was hung
up in lane 7 with a bad start in the last heat for the 8th grade girls. Trott
did not make it out of the prelims with an :18.37.
Next up Hailee Elmore and another state championship! Elmore and Katie Jasmon
were both seated in the fastest heat of the 1600M again this year. Elmore lead
the field by 50M the whole way out. She controlled the race and finished posting
5:20. Jasmon ran 5:52 for 27th place at state. Times were definitely
affected by weather and track conditions.
Helms finished the first day of state by qaulifying out of the prelims in the
100M dash against and amazingly fast group of runners from the state of
Illinois. Final times have not yet been posted but Helms did not make it to the
finals. She is a strong runner and very fast but running against the
very best in the state was a new experience. She will be back again next year.
Tomorrow: Sergent in the 100M hurdle finals, Sanders in the shot put, Helms in
the 200M dash, Jasmon in the 800M run, Elmore in the 400M run and both 7th and
8th grade 4x200M relay teams
